Film Poster Analysis

In this course I have to create a film poster for my Film trailer. First of all I need to analyse a film posters so I would know what is best on create my film poster. As I am making a horror trailer i will having a close analysis on horror films. I am analysing the films such as "The Shining", "The Blaire Witch Project", "Saw 3D" and "Eden Lake".

Saw 3D

First of all in the poster of Saw 3D the imagery is simple but relates to the film. The reason why I said that is because the eye goes with the catchy phrase and the name of the film. 3D makes you see images or motions pop out from the screen thats why they have an image of an eye popping out right at the audience but in a 2D visual image. Saw put their own material in the image so they can relate to poster. As you can see there are dangerous weapons and hand gestures of help around the eye splashing out. This shows meaning of the word popping to how the little images popping out of the eye.

I took close a analysis to this poster mainly because for my film poster I wanted to use an eye as an iconic image for the film. In my opinion I think an eye for an image leaves the audience clueless but it leaves them guessing and if you leave them thinking about more then they start to feel like watching the film.
The design of Saw 3D hasn't got lot interesting twists to it with the fonts, layout or rotation of the poster in my opinion. For the layout there is only the phrase up top the image in the middle and to be honest thats shows they haven't a lot of effort through with the layout. There isn't any rotation on the images or fonts either. With the font of the title you can see the different style than a normal font such as the S and the A look like they have been drawn by blood by the ripples. The W is odd because it doesnt fit with the other letters this could mean a sort of symbol relating to the film.

Saw 3D holds no information. It doesnt show the actors names, studio or the credits like most films do. This could mean that they want to leave the poster very simple and have the audience found out who is in the movie by watching it.

The Shining

The imagery of this poster is not much creative. This film poster was created in 1980 so at those times people would be more scared because Horror Films was becoming popular so new horror ideas would sink into the audience. But the image doesnt stand out because its hiding behind the title so it wont bring out a horror affect.

The design of layout is creative but has no meaning under it. The image behind the title is clever but doesn't have meaning about 'The Shining'. It could relate how the people are trap in the hotel and show there no chance of escaping. Anywho, the colour of the poster is quite bizaare because the colour yellow sends out a meaning of happiness and sunny and not the colour of fear and horror. So i don't agree with the colour option. The poster format is quite common and other posters use the same format such as having the title in the middle and the further information at the bottom.
